Team Leadership

The Advancing Leadership Institute designs and delivers custom team leadership programs with guaranteed results.

Those with leadership possess the ability to organize skills and talents of others to an observable result. Leaders develop a following around competency or virtuosity in their domain, such as finance, marketing, customer service or sales.

A leader's ability to move others effectively is also the result of their capacities to move people in areas of Intellect, Emotion, and Embodiment, that is, their ability to show-up with a physical presence consistent with their thoughts and words.

OUR PROMISE
The three-day leadership camp creates openings for positive and sustainable change in embodied leadership, team collaboration, communication and influencing styles. Participants will leave the leadership camp with the ability to move more effectively in their desired domains at both home and work.

We promise that your leaders will show up differently.

  • They will identify behaviors and practices to build trust, move more effectively in change, engage in Purposeful activity, and enter more effectively in relationships.
  • They will be clear on how to make more discerning decisions regarding priorities.
  • There will be increased capacity to move in change and uncertain situations. Problems will not go away. Yet, your team will have more control in meeting and managing issues.
  • They will increase their capacity for asking questions and leading in decision-making.
  • They will see themselves as more valuable and will add more value to themselves and others.
  • Their days will pass with less stress and yet they will fulfill on their commitments. Energy will be more sustainable and personal capacity will increase while moving with care and concern.

Participants will find more enjoyment in both their home and work lives; those in their lives will find them easier to be with and will more readily seek them out for advice and counsel.

LOCATION
The location of leadership training has proven to be a significant contributor to success of the program. When feasible, using the outdoor as our classroom allows significant opportunities to occur; it encourages participants to disconnect from their "busyness" and move together effectively in learning. The program begins with an off-road expedition in Land Rovers, which provides a dramatic opening as well as a real-life practice in how to communicate with one another in showing up as both a customer as well as a performer in overcoming obstacles (we conduct Land Rover leadership on behalf of Land Rover, as well).

Parts of days 2 and 3, weather allowing, are conducted outdoors with easy access to facilities. Dress code is casual and outdoor ready. Most of our classes are in environments without easy access for cell phones or Internet connection for the sake of creating a domain for discovery and possibility.

DELIVERY
Team coaching work is used to deliver and practice topics that move teams together and develop a sense of cohesiveness. Our work is not academic based in the western tradition, but practice based in the eastern "dojo" learning form. Interaction and involvement is not a choice; everyone participates and learns from the mistakes made in the classroom.

The discourse is facilitated by certified leadership coaches with mastery in their field of expertise. There are three to four leaders so individual attention is easily and readily available.

SAMPLE CURRICULUM
The following areas have been identified for the discourse, knowing that we are also responsive to the shifting needs which are awakened during the work:

DAY ONE HOW I MOVE AS A LEADER?
Using the curriculum from Inland Expeditions, the adventure creates a space such that within minutes the participants have a clear opening to seeing and understanding how they move with their teams and clients and what is and is not effective. From that point they commit to positive change and then move into practice on what needs to be unlearned and learned. By the end of the first afternoon there is clarity and commitment to moving forward in a way to meet Conditions of Success.

THE SEASONS OF ORGANIZATION - Leading Change Effectively
Leaders are aware of where they, and their teams, are in the cycle of change. This workshop helps provides a framework to recognize how an individual and organization experiences change, works with Purpose and Commitment, and action steps necessary to move forward and reorganize to create the desired future.

DAY TWO PURPOSE IN ACTION - Connecting Purpose and Values to Action
Leaders that move from purpose align teams and actions to move effectively. This workshop starts with a clarification of personal beliefs and values, an exploration of natural gifts and talents, a vision for your future, a purpose statement to guide your days, and a personal plan to help you transition your life. The desired outcome is that at the end of each day you can say, "Yes, this was a day well lived."

RESISTANCE-Moving Beyond Boulders
All vision and action is fraught with obstacles. Moving effectively through resistance separates great success from good success. This workshop explores first how our own behavior patterns contribute and detract from success, and how we can adapt to the needs of others for the sake of moving toward our vision and purpose. Practical business settings are used to explore internal resistance and group resistance.

DAY THREE COACHING - Successful Leadership From Behind
Coaching is the ability to move with another for the sake of Being of Service in helping them reach their desired future. This discourse focuses on how to draw out what another needs and desires and how to lead so that they experience meaningful success. This section is an introduction to the intellectual and embodied leadership attributes of how to show up as a coach and mentor.

SUSTAINABLE LEADERSHIP - TRANSITION LEARNING
Moving from the classroom and returning to the work environment while sustaining and growing what was learned in this leadership camp is the conversation during the last afternoon. This particular discussion is on how to practically apply and live what was learned, when to know what is too much and what is too little and the vital importance of commitments to self-generative coaching. Our work is practiced and practical based, emphasizing real-world actions and to sustain learning throughout the program; space for integrating the learnings and making individual commitments to moving forward are a part of this closing integration.
