The newly created Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO) role at NorthCountry Federal Credit Union (NorthCountry) will bring these skills to an engaged, long-tenured, high-performing executive team. As NorthCountry approaches $1 billion in assets and looks to the future, there is a need for a unified information technology strategy to include planning, development, and management of the credit union’s IT systems, evaluating future technology needs, and partnering with fintechs and technology-based CUSOs, to ensure they align with the NorthCountyr’s mission and goals. The CITO is attuned to available technology and always considers new ideas to improve processes and efficiencies for the credit union. The CITO brings a technological perspective into consideration to advance performance and capabilities.

The CITO will build and guide a team of business analysts, developers, and other IT professionals to implement the strategy. Mentoring, coaching, and developing employees are critical to the success of the strategy, the department, and the Credit Union. NorthCountry has a strong culture, and the CITO must be open, curious, an active listener, influential, and persuasive.

The overall goal of the CITO is to develop a centralized information technology strategy. A priority is for the CITO to thoroughly understand the business units and their specific technological needs when designing the strategy. The CITO will partner with business unit leaders to analyze current systems and needs, investigate available technologies, and create a cohesive strategy that moves the credit union forward. The CITO will drive the value of a unified approach to the organization, constantly considering the tools necessary for each business unit to perform at a high level.

Other responsibilities will include IT governance, infrastructure management, vendor management, and compliance with various industry standards and regulations. IT governance includes policies and procedures such as IT Asset Management and User Access Management.

Knowledge and Skills

  • 10+ years of leadership experience, preferably in a large, complex credit union. Other regulated industries and enterprise-class organizations considered.
  • Experience in a similar strategy development and implementation initiative
  • Education and certifications commensurate with this role
  • Strategic thinker
  • Excellent communicator
