Kitsap Credit Union (KCU) is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative dedicated to serving its communities. KCU is seeking candidates to join the credit union’s leadership as a Supervisory Committee (SC) member. The SC is responsible for ensuring the Board of Directors and management of the Credit Union meet required financial reporting objectives and establish practices and procedures sufficient to safeguard members’ assets. 

The SC ensures KCU’s accounting records and financial reports are promptly prepared and accurately reflect operations. These reports must confirm policies and control procedures are sufficiently safeguarded against error, conflict of interest, self-dealing, and fraud. To assist in performing their duties, the SC oversees the Internal Audit Department and external auditors.

We are seeking applicants with strong leadership and business skills in audit, risk management, information technology/cyber security, business finance, human resources, and legal compliance. Candidates must understand how to analyze financial statements, communicate with the Internal Audit Department regarding the audit function, and express opinions succinctly. Candidates must be willing and able to ask difficult questions and demonstrate confidentiality at all times. An effective Committee member is passionate and ready to learn about the ever-changing financial institution industry.  

Committee members play an integral oversight role at KCU, which means there will be a time commitment of approximately 20 to 30 hours per month. This person will be responsible for being an essential voice in the Supervisory Committee’s monthly meetings (held during business hours), attending Kitsap Credit Union’s events, completing continuing education requirements, and attending industry-related conference(s) annually. Committee members are expected to participate in Committee Chair and Secretary leadership rotations; additionally, SC members must be proficient with technology and willing to learn other programs used by the Committee for training and KCU business. 

In addition to the skills noted above, to be considered for the position, the candidate must::

  • Live and/or work in Washington State. 
  • Be a member of Kitsap Credit Union, or be willing and able to become a member. 
  • Be bondable by our surety bond company. 
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Be at least 18 years of age. 
  • Not be a current or past (over the previous three years) Kitsap Credit Union employee or family member of an employee. 
  • Not be involved in leadership of another credit union or financial institution
